Online retailers in India gear up for a big Independence day sale
Flipkart is expected to organise its ‘The Big Freedom Sale’ from August 10-12, its fashion arm Myntra will have its ‘Right to Fashion Sale’ from August 9-12.
Online retailers are gearing up for the upcoming Independence Day sales, an important sale prior to their annual flagship festive sales.
While homegrown player Flipkart is expected to organise its ‘The Big Freedom Sale’ from August 10-12, its fashion arm Myntra will have its ‘Right to Fashion Sale’ from August 9-12.
Rival Amazon India announced that the company’s ‘Freedom Sale’ will kick off on August 9 and end on August 12. Industry players expect Amazon to focus on Prime customers and an increased push for customers to use its wallet Amazon Pay.
On the other hand, Paytm Mall’s ‘Freedom Cashback Sale’ is expected to have the longest sale period starting August 8-15 with offers running across online and offline channels. The Alibaba-backed company is going to invest ₹100 crore in joint marketing activities with over 1,000 partnered brands and private labels.
While Paytm Mall will run offers across categories like mobiles, fashion, appliances, laptops and electronics, FMCG is going to be a key category for the company as it ‘drives frequency of usage.’
“Our O2O (online to offline) business model stands for equal opportunity for online as well as offline retail,” said Amit Sinha, COO of Paytm Mall. “We are committed to offering a rewarding shopping experience to our customers as well as growth in sales of our partnered brands and private labels.”
Industry experts say that the Independence Day sales is one of the biggest sales prior to the festive sales around Diwali.
“We expect deeper discounts in fashion and any other category that the e-commerce companies are trying to grow,” said Swati Bhargava, cofounder of cashback website CashKaro. “During these sales, we usually see a 250-400% increase in sales when compared to business as usual.”
